Study Process
In the first phase of this study, approximately 12 to 18 months, the District analyzes current conditions by collecting engineering, economic and environmental data and developing baselines for Buffalo Bayou and lower White Oak Bayou. These baselines represent the study area without a flood damage reduction or ecosystem restoration project.
In the second phase of the study, approximately 24 to 48 months, the District identifies and evaluates components for flood damage reduction and ecosystem restoration. At the end of this phase, the District expects to identify a recommended plan that has public support and meets the requirements for federal funding.
In the third phase of the study, an independent technical review of the recommended plan occurs and could last six to 12 months. Upon the completion of the independent technical review, the recommended plan moves into the fourth phase, or the Corps of Engineers review and approval, which could last 12 to 18 months. The recommended plan will be refined during the third and fourth phases of the study.
In all phases of the study process, the District communicates updates to the public on the study progress. This may be done via e-updates, as well as on this website.
