Halls Bayou Federal Feasibility Study
Study Status
Current Phase of the Study
The overall Federal process from plan conception through construction for a flood damage reduction project on a major stream is a multi-year process. To meet the requirements and be considered for Federal funding support, the Harris County Flood Control District is required to do an extensive study in cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
The Halls Bayou Federal Feasibility Study is in its second year and nearing the completion of its first phase: Analyzing Current Conditions. Before the conclusion of the phase, the Federal Study Team will conduct public scoping meetings on February 17 and February 21, 2009 to introduce the study to the public and collect public comments related to the study and flooding problems within the Halls Bayou Watershed. Public comments in this phase are important and will assist with the identification of components in the second phase.
The third phase of the study – Formulate, Evaluate and Select a Plan – should begin in 2010. Overall, the study is expected to last about seven years.
In all phases of the study process, the District communicates updates to the public on the study progress. This may be done through e-updates, this Web site, and other means of communication included flyers, mail outs and community meetings.
