Freshwater Tidal Marsh Project Nears Completion

January 23, 2006
KUHF Houston Public Radio recently reported on the Harris County Flood Control District's nearly-completed Fresh Tidal Marsh near the mouth of Brays Bayou at Mason Park. The news segment discussed the benefits of a wetlands site in an urban community and how wetlands plants filter sediment and pollutants from stormwater that ultimately drains into the bayou. The tidal marsh project, which is part of Project Brays, was made possible through a host of partners, including the Texas Cooperative Extension/Texas Sea Grant, Texas Parks and Wildlife and the City of Houston.

All four stormwater detention basins are currently undergoing excavation. In addition, the District is preparing to widen the channel from its mouth near the Houston Ship Channel upstream to Lawndale Street.
