More than 30 Westbury-area residents and members of Cub Scout Pack 99 gathered at the Willow Waterhole Stormwater Detention Basin on September 26th to plant wildflower seeds as part of the Third Annual Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Tribute Planting Project.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded a $1.9 million hazard mitigation grant to the Harris County Flood Control District to acquire residential properties that suffered extensive damage during Hurricane Ike.

July 8, 2009 - Avian Wildlife Abounds at Willow Waterhole Stormwater Detention Basin
A nest containing four baby Cooper's hawks - an uncommon find in urbanized areas - was recently spotted at the Willow Waterhole Stormwater Detention Basin in southwest Houston, a site that has attracted more than 120 species of birds since the Harris County Flood Control District began excavating the basin to reduce flooding risks for thousands of area residents and businesses, while also creating habitat for wildlife.

June 30, 2009 - Only Two Weeks Left to Apply for Recent Federal Disaster Loans
Manuel R. Gonzalez, Director of the U. S. Small Business Administration's (SBA) Houston District Office, announced today that individuals and businesses who have suffered property damage as a result of the April 27 - 28 severe storm and flooding have until July 14, 2009 to apply for an SBA Federal disaster loan.

The Harris County Flood Control District has begun constructing a $5.3 million channel that will divert water from White Oak Bayou around the city of Jersey Village during times of intense rain.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded a $1 million grant to the Harris County Flood Control District under a pilot program that pays for permanent staff and equipment carrying out debris-related work during regular working hours.
