In an effort to reduce flooding risks along Hunting Bayou, the Harris County Flood Control District (HCFCD), in partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), will be constructing the next 2.5-mile channel segment of the project, located between Highway 59 and the Homestead stormwater detention basin. The project is scheduled to begin construction in Fall 2020 and is expected to be complete by Fall 2021. HCFCD is seeking community input on:
Should the Falls St Bridge be removed and replaced OR Removed without replacement?
A previously conducted traffic and pedestrian study indicates the Falls St Bridge has limited use and there are alternate access routes for vehicles and the Houston Parks Board 2020 trail for pedestrians.
If the bridge is not replaced:
- The risk of potential channel blockages would be reduced
- It will allow the channel to be more of an open space concept
- A T-shaped turnaround would be constructed on the north end of the bridge
There would be cost savings to the overall project, supporting our ongoing efforts to be good stewards of taxpayer dollars
A Project Hunting community engagement virtual meeting will be held on August 10, 2020. HCFCD is seeking public comment between now and then. You may share your feedback and comments on this project below or call 346-286-4040.
