Updates on Harvey Drainage Network Repairs

  • May 14, 2019 -- Harris County Commissioners Court awarded seven construction contracts totaling approximately $41.3 million for Harvey repair projects in the Greens, White Oak Bayou, Addicks Reservoir, and Barker Reservoir watersheds.
  • April 9, 2019 -- Harris County Commissioners Court awarded five construction contracts totaling approximately $22.1 million for Harvey repair projects in the Spring Creek, Cypress Creek and Willow Creek watersheds.
  • March and April 2019 -- Bidding for construction contracts underway
  • March 26, 2019 -- Harris County Commissioners Court authorized the Flood Control District to accept an additional $40.8 million grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture/Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) to repair drainage infrastructure damage caused during Hurricane Harvey. Along with a $4.18 million local match, this third NRCS grant will fund additional projects to repair erosion to channels and bayous.
  • February 26, 2019 -- Harris County Commissioners Court authorized the Flood Control District to accept an additional $25.1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture/Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) to repair drainage infrastructure damage caused during Hurricane Harvey. Along with a $2.57 million local match, this second NRCS grant will fund approximately $27.7 million in projects to repair erosion to channels and bayous.
  • December 2018 -- Construction began on work funded by the first NRCS grant and was expected to be complete in 2019.
  • October 9, 2018 -- Harris County Commissioners Court awarded one construction contract for $799,079 for Harvey repair projects in the Little Cypress Creek watershed
  • September 25, 2018 -- Harris County Commissioners Court awarded two construction contracts totaling approximately $1.7 million for Harvey repair projects in the Greens Bayou and Addicks Reservoir watersheds.
  • September 11, 2018 -- Harris County Commissioners Court awarded four construction contracts totaling approximately $9.7 million for Harvey repair projects in the Cypress Creek, Greens Bayou and Addicks Reservoir watersheds.
  • August 14, 2018 -- Harris County Commissioners Court authorized the Flood Control District to accept a $12.6 million grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture/Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) to repair drainage infrastructure damage caused during Hurricane Harvey. Along with a $1.29 million local match, the grant will fund approximately $13.9 million in projects to repair erosion to channels and bayous. This NRCS grant is the first of what is expected to be additional federal grant awards addressing an estimated $84 million in needed repairs documented after Harvey.

The following list of repairs funded by the first NRCS grant corresponds to numbered locations on the map above:

  1. Tributary of Garners Bayou in the Greens Bayou watershed – HCFCD Unit P130-09-00 – Channel and structure repairs beginning just south of Will Clayton Parkway eastbound lane and ending approximately 360 feet further south.
  2. Langham Creek in the Addicks Reservoir watershed – HCFCD Unit U100-00-00 – Channel and structure repairs, approximately 1,395 feet between Creek Trail and Kemble Creek Drive.
  3. Bear Creek in the Addicks Reservoir watershed – HCFCD Unit U102-00-00 – Channel repairs, beginning approximately at N. Fry Road and proceeding downstream for 860 feet.
  4. Greens Bayou – HCFCD Unit P100-00-00 – Restoration of approximately 400 linear feet of channel slope along the south bank, beginning approximately 400 feet upstream (west) of the Beltway 8 frontage road bridge and ending approximately 800 feet upstream of Beltway 8
  5. Greens Bayou – HCFCD P100-00-00: Restoration of approximately 400 linear feet of channel slope along the north bank beginning approximately 1,000 feet upstream of the U.S. Highway 59 frontage road bridge and ending upstream of the U.S. Highway 59 frontage road bridge.
  6. Goodyear Creek in the Greens Bayou watershed – HCFCD Unit P103-00-00 – Restoration of channel slope and bottom beginning approximately 50 feet upstream (north) of Corpus Christi Street and ending 80 feet upstream of Corpus Christi Street.
  7. Horsepen Creek – HCFCD Unit U106-00-00 – General channel repairs, including sheet piling replacement, sediment removal and riprap installation, from F.M. 529 to approximately 2,900 linear feet south of F.M. 529.
  8. Multiple separate projects within Cypress Creek watershed. General channel repairs, including removal and disposal of sediment accumulations, granular fill and riprap installation, pipe removal and replacement, and outfall structure removal and replacement.
  9. Greens Bayou – HCFCD Unit P100-00-00 – Channel and pipe repairs from Tall Shadows Drive to 1,200 feet downstream of Tall Shadows Drive on the north bank only.
  10. Tributary of Greens Bayou – HCFCD Unit P132-00-00 – Replacement of three 84-inch outfall pipes at River Trail Drive. .
  11. Cypress Creek in the Greens Bayou watershed – HCFCD Unit P145-03-00 – Channel and pipe repair on Cypress Creek below energy-dissipating structure just north of Sun Prairie Drive.
  12. Little Cypress Creek – HCFCD Unit L100-00-00 – South bank channel slope repairs, starting from the Telge Road bridge and extending upstream (west) of the bridge for approximately 652 linear feet.
  13. Little Cypress Creek – HCFCD Unit L100-00-00 – South bank channel slope repairs, starting from approximately 1,500 linear feet upstream of the Telge Road bridge and extending upstream (west) approximately 162 linear feet further upstream .
  14. Little Cypress Creek – HCFCD Unit L100-00-00: South bank channel slope repairs, starting approximately 370 feet upstream of the project above and extending approximately 160 linear feet further upstream.
  15. Little Cypress Creek – HCFCD Unit L100-00-00 – South bank channel slope repairs, starting approximately 560 linear feet upstream of the project above and extending approximately 455 linear feet further upstream.
  16. Dinner Creek in the Addicks Reservoir watershed – HCFCD Unit U120-00-00 -- Channel repairs and desilt, starting approximately 700 feet north of Rustic Lake Lane and ending approximately 190 feet east of the intersection of Parker Mill Lane.
  17. Tributary of Horsepen Creek in the Addicks Reservoir Watershed – HCFCD Unit U106-13-00 – Channel repairs, starting from approximately 185 feet north of West Road to approximately 45 feet north of Houston Pipeline Company easement.
  18. Tributary of Horsepen Creek in the Addicks Reservoir Watershed – HCFCD Unit U106-09-00 – Channel repairs and concrete structural headwall & wingwall construction, from south line of 180-foot wide CenterPoint Fee Strip to approximately 200 feet south of CenterPoint Fee Strip.

Other milestones for Harvey Drainage Network Repairs

  • On March 27, 2018, Harris County Commissioners Court approved a total of $12.5 million in initial contracts with 15 engineering firms to design Harvey repairs.
