Z100-00-00-X286 - Brays Bayou and Buffalo Bayou Watersheds

Z100-00-00-X286 is a collection of major maintenance projects that will repair various types of channel failures along 15 different project areas within the Brays Bayou and Buffalo Bayou watersheds. Portions of the identified channels are considered to be in serious failure and these repairs are necessary to prevent further impact to the channels.

Projects included as part of Z100-00-00-X286 are NOT classified as flood damage reduction projects; however, the channel may be widened in some locations in order to restore the channel conveyance capacity back to how the channel was originally designed.

Projects that fall under Z100-00-00-X286 include:

Buffalo Bayou Watershed Repairs

  • W167-00-00-X004 - consists of approximately 720 linear feet of channel restoration, removal and disposal of sediment accumulations, granular fill, and riprap installation, and pipe removal and replacement, beginning approximately 100 linear feet downstream of Interstate-10 Frontage Road and Turkey Creek (W167-00-00).
  • W165-00-00-X007 - consists of three pipe repairs approximately 415 linear feet downstream Briar Forest Drive and Ditch No.W165-00-00.
  • W156-00-00-X021 - consists of void repair with flowable fill, located approximately 400 linear feet upstream of Westview Drive and Ditch W156-00-00.
  • W142-00-00-X010 - consists of concrete panel replacement, approximately 800 linear feet downstream of San Felipe and Bering Ditch (W142-00-00),on the east channel bank.
  • W140-04-00-X006 - consists of void repair, approximately 30 linear feet downstream of Westview Drive and Bridle Spur Ditch (W140-04-00), along the east channel bank.
  • W140-01-05-X003 - consists of erosion repair, approximately 50 linear feet upstream of Long Branch Lane and Ditch No. W140-01-05, along the west channel slope.

Brays Bayou Watershed Repairs

  • D140-04-00-X008 - consists of low flow concrete channel repair, approximately 700 linear feet upstream of McLain Boulevard and Ditch No.D140-04-00.
  • D134-00-00-X006 - consists of pipe repair with voids, and concrete pavement repair approximately 505 linear feet upstream of Westpark Drive and Ditch No. D134-00-00, along the west channel bank.
  • D122-00-00-X015 -consists of erosion repair, removal and disposal of sediment accumulations, granular fill, and riprap installation, approximately 310 linear feet downstream of Willcrest Drive and Ditch No. D122-00-00, and pipe removal and replacement, manhole install, and backfilling existing sinkhole along ditch back, approximately 705 linear feet downstream of Willcrest Drive and Ditch No. D122-00-00, and pipe and interceptor structure removal and replacement, erosion repair, removal and disposal of sediment accumulations, granular fill, and riprap installation, approximately 775 linear feet downstream of Wilcrest Drive and Ditch No. D122-00-00.
  • D120-00-00-X018 - consists of erosion repair, removal and disposal of sediment accumulations, granular fill, riprap installation, and pipe removal and replacement, approximately 1,125 feet downstream of Cook Road and Ditch No. D120-00-00, erosion repair, removal and disposal of sediment accumulations, granular fill, and riprap installation, beginning downstream of South Kirkwood and Ditch No. D120-00-00 for approximately 115 linear feet, erosion repair, removal and disposal of sediment accumulations, granular fill, and riprap installation approximately 300 linear feet downstream of South Kirkwood Road and Ditch No. D120-00-00 extending approximately 125 linear feet, erosion repair, removal and disposal of sediment accumulations, granular fill, and riprap installation approximately 500 linear feet downstream of South Kirkwood Road and Ditch No. D120-00-00, erosion repair, removal and disposal of sediment accumulations, granular fill, and riprap installation approximately 400 linear feet upstream of Belle Park Drive and Ditch No. D120-00-00, erosion repair, removal and disposal of sediment accumulations, granular fill, and riprap installation approximately 5 linear feet downstream of Belle Park Drive and Ditch No. D120-00-00, and erosion repair, removal and disposal of sediment accumulations, granular fill, riprap installation, slope paving installation, and pipe removal and replacement approximately 630 linear feet downstream of Belle Park Drive and Ditch No. D120-00-00.
  • D118-05-00-X005 - consists of toe line erosion repair approximately 10 linear feet upstream of W Belfort Avenue and Ditch No.D118-05-00.
  • D103-02-00-X001 - consists of toe erosion repair on Yates Gully, approximately 520 linear feet downstream of Jefferson Street and Yates Gully (Ditch No.D103-02-00).
  • D100-00-00-X115 - consists of concrete slope repair approximately 650 feet east of Green Crest Drive and Ditch No. D100-00-00.
  • D100-00-00-X114 - consists of interceptor structure and outfall replacement approximately 250 liner feet upstream of Vineyard Drive and Ditch No. D100-00-00, on the south channel bank.
  • D100-00-00-X113 - consists of toe erosion repair, and outfall repair approximately 330 feet to the downstream of Eldridge Parkway and Ditch No. D100-00-00.

The total cost for these channel repairs is expected to be approximately $2.2M and will be funded using grants from the Natural Resources Conservation Service and Federal Emergency Management Agency. 

There will be heavy machinery near project sites and substantial vegetation removal operations may be needed in order to properly prepare the site for construction. For public safety reasons, trail users can expect intermittent closures as the projects progress. Please pay attention to posted signage in the project areas.

Construction has already begun at some of the project sites, but anticipated completion for all sites is Summer 2020 depending on weather.
