MEDIA ADVISORY: UPCOMING HARRIS COUNTY FLOOD CONTROL DISTRICT MEDIA BRIEFING

We thank you for your interest in the Harris County Flood Control District, and we ask for your patience as we respond to your media requests for information. The Harris County Flood Control District is currently operating in recovery mode, and all available staff and resources are committed full-time to priority response activities following Hurricane Harvey. This includes ongoing infrastructure assessments, emergency immediate infrastructure repairs, and debris removal to prepare Harris County’s 2,500 miles of channels, creeks, and bayous for the next storm event.

U.S. ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS CONTINUES CONTROLLED RELEASES FROM ADDICKS AND BARKER RESERVOIRS WITH NO CHANGES OR IMPACTS TO ADDITIONAL STRUCTURES ALONG BUFFALO BAYOU

Controlled releases of stormwater from Addicks and Barker reservoirs into Buffalo Bayou, at a combined total of 13,300 cubic feet per second, continue as planned by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. These discharge rates have continued steady since Friday afternoon and will NOT impact additional structures downstream along Buffalo Bayou.

BAYOUS AND CREEKS UPDATE AS OF 1:15 PM - AUGUST 30

The Harris County Flood Control District's Flood Operations team continues to monitor this life-threatening flooding event in progress over Harris County. Rainfall has mostly ended, but widespread house flooding in the thousands is underway across Harris County. This includes neighborhoods adjacent to Addicks and Barker reservoirs and along Buffalo Bayou, which have been impacted by historic releases from the reservoir outlets.
