SECOND GROUP 

In August 2018, the Flood Control District began work on a group of 14 maintenance projects in the Armand Bayou, Greens Bayou, Jackson Bayou, Spring Gully & Goose Creek, and Luce Bayou watersheds of east Harris County. This is the second group of projects in an $8.1 million construction contract to repair erosion, remove and dispose of sediment accumulations, and replace damaged drainage features such as stormwater outfall pipes and associated inlets, in order to restore overall drainage system function and stormwater conveyance capacity.

FIRST GROUP

Work on a previous group of 15 sediment removal and erosion repair projects began in 2017 and was complete in 2018. (Map and list of sites below.) These projects were in the Sims Bayou, San Jacinto & Galveston Bay, San Jacinto River, Carpenters Bayou, Spring Gully & Goose Creek, Greens Bayou and Jackson Bayou watersheds of east Harris County. 

Sediment is soil that is broken down, carried and deposited by stormwater. Sediment accumulation, which can reduce stormwater conveyance capacity, is a particular issue in Harris County Precinct 2, which is geographically located on the downstream end of several watersheds. 

Planning for this first batch of projects began in early 2017. The Flood Control District partnered with Harris County Precinct 2 to prioritize and construct these and future maintenance projects in a phased approach that addresses watershed needs across the precinct. On September 12, 2017, Harris County Commissioners Court awarded an approximately $8.1 million construction contract to low bidder Choctaw Construction Services LLC. 

Construction equipment will access the work areas from multiple points along the selected project sites. The contractor will use heavy construction equipment such as dump trucks, backhoes and bulldozers. Motorists and pedestrians are encouraged to be alert to heavy equipment traffic when passing near construction access points. The Flood Control District appreciates your patience during these maintenance projects.
