HARRIS COUNTY FLOOD CONTROL DISTRICT CONTINUES NEW CONSTRUCTION ON HUNTING BAYOU

The Harris County Flood Control District has begun construction on two projects that will function together to reduce flooding risks in the Hunting Bayou watershed in central Harris County: the final phase of a stormwater detention basin on Homestead Road, and a third phase of construction to widen and deepen Hunting Bayou itself.

Bayous and Creek Update - August 8 - 10 a.m.

Heavy rainfall overnight averaged 5-6 inches in six hours from north central Harris County to north Fort Bend County. Storms have finally moved out of the Houston/Harris County region allowing for a break in excessive rainfall that has resulted in flash flooding across the west and north parts of Harris County.

Heavy Rainfall is Affecting West Harris County; At 5 a.m. Bayous Are Rising

The Harris County Flood Control District's Flood Operations team is actively monitoring rainfall trends, as well as measured rainfall amounts and water levels in bayous and creeks. Excessive rainfall and flash flood event has impacted Waller, Fort Bend and Harris Counties overnight. Rainfall amounts averaged five to six and a half inches in the last six hours from Jersey Village to Katy with a wider area of three to four inches from Kingwood to Sugar Land to Waller County. Widespread street flooding continues over large areas of western and northern Harris County into Waller and Fort Bend counties.
