Construction Advisory for Major Maintenance of Cypress Creek and Tributaries

In an effort to keep you informed about the Harris County Flood Control District’s continuing improvements in the Cypress Creek watershed, we want to notify you of an upcoming project in your area. In September 2021, the Flood Control District will begin construction on the second set of project repair sites (Batch 2) on Cypress Creek and its tributaries.

Overall, this project involves major maintenance along Cypress Creek and its tributaries to restore channel conveyance capacity across the watershed. Batch 2 comprises nine channels that include tributaries of both Faulkey Gully (HCFCD Unit K142-00-00) and Pillot Gully (HCFCD Unit K140-00-00), as well as other channels in the Cypress Creek watershed. The scope of the project includes removal of silt from the channel, placement of buried riprap (stones designed to protect from erosion), erosion repair, outfall pipe removal and replacement, manhole replacements, concrete channel lining replacements, excavation and off-site disposal, imported fill, and site restoration.

Multiple crews will be working on various channels simultaneously. The timeframe for when crews will be working at each site in Batch 2 has not been determined, but additional communications may be sent to impacted areas prior to construction.

This major repair project is funded by the 2018 HCFCD Bond Program. Bond ID CI-012 will be constructed in 6-8 phases, called batches, of multiple individual project sites throughout the Cypress Creek watershed. Batch 1 is currently under construction on other channels in the watershed. This work will not widen or deepen the channels but will return them to their designed capacity to convey stormwater more efficiently.
