PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The goal of this project is to reduce flooding risks by improving the capacity of Halls Bayou channel P118-25-00 and its tributary, channel P118-25-01 to convey stormwater during rain events.

This project is part the Watershed-Wide Project Implementation Program for Halls Bayou.

Stage

This project is in the PRELIMINARY ENGINEERING stage. This stage of the project will result in a preliminary engineering report (PER) with a recommended project that can be taken to Harris County Commissioners Court for approval and then advanced to the DESIGN stage. The PER may identify needed right-of-way acquisition, utility relocation and a preliminary cost estimate.

Location

Channel P118-25-00 is located just upstream (west) of Hardy Toll Road with an approximate length of 0.7 miles and a drainage area of 100 acres. The modeled channel terminates at Aldine Mail Route Road but continues north as a simple roadside ditch. Channel P118-25-01 intersects P118-25-00 about 1,200 feet south of Aldine Mail Route Road.

Bond Project Listing

Bond Project C-28 is a potential future Partnership project with the City of Houston and Harris County. The Flood Control District has also applied for funding through the Texas Water Development Board’s Flood Infrastructure Fund and is considering additional grant options. Total allocation for this project is currently $24 million on the Bond Project List, of which approximately $21.6 million is partnership funding and $2.4 million is local funding.

List of 2018 Bond Projects

The Harris County Flood Control District has a significant number of flood damage reduction projects occurring all over Harris County as part of its on-going Capital Improvement Program (CIP), Operations and Maintenance, and the 2018 Bond Program. Click the Project ID on the Map to learn about projects’ details. Some early-stage projects are not highlighted on the map. The map will be updated when projects advance or when more information becomes available.

Project Lifecycle

Every flood damage reduction project is unique. Yet each project begins and ends, with common and predictable milestones along the way. Whether a project moves forward – and how quickly – depends on many factors, including the availability of funding at each milestone, shifting community priorities for flood damage reduction, and other changing circumstances (such as the price of trees or concrete) from year to year.
