February 9, 2021 - Harris County Commissioners authorized the negotiation of an agreement for engineering services in support of this project.

December 15, 2020 - Harris County Commissioners Court authorized the initiation of this project.

Project Description

Bond Project F-109 involves the evaluation of flood risk reduction improvements within Tributaries O119-00-00 and O200-00-00. The project aims to aims to reduce the risk of flooding within the Highlands Reservoir south of Barbers Hill Road by lowering the water surface elevation along Tributaries O119-00-00 & O200-00-00. This project will evalute flood risk reduction alternatives. The project focuses on evaluating alternatives that utilize San Jacinto River Authority land within the Highlands Reservoir to add storage volume and increase channel conveyance capacity.

This project is part of a two-pronged flood risk reduction solution for this area. A separate Bond Project F-39 involves the advanced feasibility study of flood risk reduction improvements.

Location

Tributaries O119-00-00 and O200-00-00 are located near the Highlands Reservoir within the Spring Gully and Goose Creek Watershed. The recommended project is located just south of the Highland Mobile Estates neighborhood, along Barbers Hill Road.

This project is in the PRELIMINARY ENGINEERING stage.

Bond Project Listing

The Tributaries O119-00-00 and O200-00-00 Flood Risk Reduction Project is a is a “Local Only” funded project, which means that there is no funding partner identified at this time and the project will be funded entirely from the 2018 Bond Program. The entire cost of the project is unknown at this time. Pending funding approval, and the selection of the recommended alternative the cost will be estimated for the project.

The Harris County Flood Control District held a virtual Community Engagement Meeting for the Tributaries O119-00-00 and O200-00-00 Flood Risk Reduction Project located near the Highlands Reservoir in the Spring Gully & Goose Creek watershed. The purpose of this meeting is to inform residents about the status of the project and share project information.
