Drainage Projects

The Harris County Engineering Department manages and oversees subdivision drainage projects within unincorporated Harris County. These subdivision drainage projects improve the internal drainage systems and related infrastructure that conveys stormwater from neighborhoods to major drainage channels or bayous maintained by the Flood Control District. Internal drainage systems include underground storm sewer systems and roadside ditches, and are typically the responsibility of the underlying municipality, utility district and/or the Harris County Engineering Department in unincorporated areas.

The Harris County Engineering Department develops drainage recommendations such as increasing/installation of underground storm sewer capacity, increasing/installation of culvert drains, increased drainage ditch capacity, improved outfalls and street regrades. Additionally, the department conducts community outreach meetings and prepares preliminary engineering reports to support the advancement of these projects toward final design and construction.
