August 23, 2022 – Harris County Commissioners Court approved an agreement in the amount of $270,602 to provide engineering and testing services in support of this project.

August 2, 2022 – Harris County Commissioners Court awarded a contract in the amount of $6,657,802, utilizing 2017 Harvey CDGB-DR Funds in support of construction for this project.

June 28, 2022 – Harris County Commissioners Court took notice that the Smith Road Channel Diversion project has been scheduled to advertise for construction bidding.

June 14, 2022 – Harris County Commissioners Court authorized an agreement for materials engineering and testing services in support of this project.

January 25, 2022 – Harris County Commissioners Court approved the certification of revised income survey results for the 2017 Hurricane Harvey Texas Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) Round One Harris County Flood Control District Smith Road Channel Diversion Drainage Improvements Infrastructure Project and submission to the Texas General Land Office (GLO).

November 9, 2021 – Harris County Commissioners Court has approved the certification of project area income survey results to be submitted the Texas General Land Office in connection with the Flood Control District’s application for grant funding through Round One of the 2017 Hurricane Harvey Texas Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) Program.

June 9, 2020 – Harris County Commissioners Court approved an additional $329,800 for design, bidding and construction phase engineering services in support of this project.

 

May 19, 2020 – Harris County Commissioners Court approved updates to project details in the 2018 Bond Program List. Update changes project funding based on CDBG-DR application amounts.

 

December 4, 2018 – Harris County Commissioners Court approved a $43,864 amendment to the agreement for engineering services in support of this project (2018 Bond Program funded).

 

May 22, 2018 – Harris County Commissioners Court authorized a $446,078 agreement with an engineering firm for design, bidding and construction phase services in connection with this project (funded from the HCFCD Capital Improvements Program).

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Bond Project C-31 involves a channel diversion project near Smith Road. This project aims to reduce the risk of flooding in the area of Tributary P133-00-00 by providing an alternative route for excess water to flow, mitigating the effects of flooding and restoring bayous and tributaries to their natural water level. Project benefits include reducing the potential for future erosion along Channel P133-00-00 within Fall Creek subdivision, reducing the risk of structural flooding for approximately 70 structures west of Smith Road during 10% annual chance (10-year) storm event, and better drainage along Smith Road.

This project is located in the area located south of Tributary P133-00-00, west of Smith Road and north of Dory Lee Lane.

Stage

This project is in the CONSTRUCTION stage.

Project Bond Listing

Total allocation for all future stages and phases of Bond Project C-31 on the Bond Project List is currently $8 million. A $6.6 million grant was secured through Community Development Block Grant for Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funding from the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Community Engagement Meeting

A Community Engagement meeting for this project was held on July 25, 2019.
