What we do
Widen and deepen bayous - Wider and deeper bayous carry more stormwater and reduce the size of floodplains.
Excavate stormwater detention basins to safely store millions of gallons of stormwater.
Implement voluntary home buyouts - buy and demolish homes located deep in a floodplain that repeatedly flood.
Maintain our drainage infrastructure - address erosion, slope failure, and sediment build-up.
What we don't do
We don’t regulate land development in Harris County, nor adopt Flood Insurance Rate Maps which are used to set flood insurance rates, and we don’t have jurisdiction over drainage for highways and streets.
