Project description

The Genoa Red Bluff Stormwater Detention Basin project includes two adjacent compartments in east Harris County that border on Armand Bayou Tributary B109-00-00. The two compartments will be developed separately, but ultimately will work together to reduce the risk of flooding in the Armand Bayou watershed.

Stormwater detention basins reduce flooding risks by temporarily taking in and holding excess stormwater during heavy rain events, and releasing the stormwater back to the adjacent channel when the threat of flooding has passed.

Location

  • HCFCD Unit B509-03-00, the northern of the two compartments, is approximately 205 acres and located south of West Fairmont Parkway at Genoa Red Bluff Road.
  • HCFCD Unit B509-04-00, the southern of the two compartments, is approximately 62 acres and located north of Red Bluff Road.

Stage

As of March 2023, the preliminary engineering stage of the project lifecycle was completed for Genoa Red Bluff Stormwater Detention Basin project. The Preliminary Engineering Report document recommends one alternative for the ultimate configuration of the entire Genoa Red Bluff Stormwater Detention Basin project site. Design initiation is anticipated in summer 2023.

Milestones

Preliminary grading and excavation of a portion of the northern compartment (HCFCD Unit B509-03-00) began in Summer 2021 and was substantially completed in October 2022.

Bond Listing

Funding for Design and Construction comes from Bond ID C-07 in the 2018 Bond Program.
