Project description

The Genoa Red Bluff Stormwater Basin project includes two adjacent compartments in east Harris County that both border on Armand Bayou Tributary B109-00-00. The two compartments will be developed separately, but ultimately will work together to reduce the risk of flooding in the Armand Bayou watershed. They include:

  • HCFCD Unit B509-03-00, the northern of the two compartments, approximately 205 acres located south of West Fairmont Parkway at Genoa Red Bluff Road.
  • HCFCD Unit B509-04-00, the southern of the two compartments, approximately 62 acres located north of Red Bluff Road.

Stormwater detention basins reduce flooding risks by temporarily taking in and holding excess stormwater during heavy rain events, and releasing the stormwater back to the adjacent channel when the threat of flooding has passed.

The Harris County Flood Control District has a significant number of flood damage reduction projects occurring all over Harris County as part of its on-going Capital Improvement Program (CIP), Operations and Maintenance, and the 2018 Bond Program.
