PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This project involves the design and construction of a dry-bottom stormwater detention basin on 136-acres of land near the intersection of Red Bluff Road and Genoa Red Bluff Road in southeast Harris County. When complete, the Baywood Stormwater Detention Basin, HCFCD Unit B513-02-00, will reduce flooding risks in the Armand Bayou watershed by safely storing excess stormwater during heavy rain events and slowly releasing it back to the bayou when the threat of flooding has passed.

The Baywood Stormwater Detention Basin will ultimately include four dry-bottom compartments. Funding is currently available to design and construct the first compartment, located in the southwestern corner of the 136-acre site. The other three compartments will be designed and constructed at a later date, as funding is secured.

Project Lifecycle

Every flood damage reduction project is unique. Yet each project begins and ends, with common and predictable milestones along the way. Whether a project moves forward – and how quickly – depends on many factors, including the availability of funding at each milestone, shifting community priorities for flood damage reduction, and other changing circumstances (such as the price of trees or concrete) from year to year.
