PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The purpose of the Smith Road Channel Diversion project is to reduce flood risks in the Greens Bayou watershed by providing an alternative route for excess water to flow, mitigating the effects of flooding and restoring bayous and tributaries to their natural water level. The Smith Road Channel Diversion project is located north of Greens Bayou near the Sam Houston Tollway and U.S. Highway 59 in northeast Harris County on HCFCD Units P133-00-00 and P133-06-00, tributaries of Garners Bayou. This project will be funded with bonds approved by Harris County voters on August 25, 2018.

The Harris County Flood Control District has a significant number of flood damage reduction projects occurring all over Harris County as part of its on-going Capital Improvement Program (CIP), Operations and Maintenance, and the 2018 Bond Program.
