August 28, 2018 - Harris County Commissioners Court authorized and initiated this project in connection with Bond Project F-110 Huffman Area Drainage Analysis

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This project involves analyzing, designing and constructing a manmade channel on the west side of Luce Bayou near Lake Houston to reduce flooding risks. The bypass channel would decrease water surface elevations in Luce Bayou by rerouting flows from Luce Bayou upstream of the confluence of Mexican Gully (HCFCD Unit S114-00-00) and discharging the flows back into Luce Bayou upstream of the confluence of Red Gully (HCFCD Unit S102-00-00).

A preliminary route was assumed during the Huffman Drainage Analysis investigation, but the exact location of the Luce Bayou bypass channel has not been finalized. In the preliminary engineering stage of this project, a more detailed evaluation of the site conditions, environmental and geotechnical considerations, and design configuration will be conducted in order to determine a recommended route for the bypass channel.

PROJECT LIFECYCLE

Every flood damage reduction project is unique. Yet each project begins and ends, with common and predictable milestones along the way. Whether a project moves forward – and how quickly – depends on many factors, including the availability of funding at each milestone, shifting community priorities for flood damage reduction, and other changing circumstances (such as the price of trees or concrete) from year to year.
