CI-016 STUDY TO EVALUATE BRIDGES AND BYPASS CHANNELS

An engineering investigation will complete the following tasks and help answer these questions:

  • Hydraulic analysis of all bridges over Buffalo Bayou
    • Are any of the bridges acting as a barrier to high stormwater flows?
    • Should any of the bridges be re-built to reduce obstructions?
  • Detailed survey and hydraulic modeling of the Sam Houston Tollway area of Buffalo Bayou
    • Is the Sam Houston Tollway at Buffalo Bayou acting as a restriction during large storms, causing stormwater to back up in the Terry Hershey Park area, as many residents believe?
  • Hydraulic analysis of high-flow bypasses, focusing on the area between Sam Houston Tollway and Shepherd Drive
    • Are there locations where a high-flow bypass of an existing bayou meander would lower water surface elevations and reduce flooding?

This project was suggested by residents of the Buffalo Bayou watershed during Community Engagement Meetings before the 2018 Bond Election.
