October 26, 2021 - Harris County Commissioners Court authorized negotiations with an engineering firm for preliminary engineering services in support of this project.

Project Description

This project is located in the northernmost reaches of Cedar Bayou and will identify flood risk mitigation solutions from the mouth of Cedar Bayou to US Highway 90. The project goal is to reduce the Cedar Bayou mainstem overflows into the sub-watersheds of tributaries Q136-00-00 and Q134-00-00. Project challenges include potential wetlands impacts and a roadside ditch along Ramsey Road.

Stage

This project is currently undergoing the PRELIMINARY ENGINEERING stage and conceptual design stage. This effort will result in more detailed recommendations for flood damage reduction projects and an implementation strategy for those projects in the form of a preliminary engineering report (PER).

Location

The project is located along Cedar Bayou upstream of FM 1960.

Bond Project Listing

Bond Project F-70 is a “Local Only” project, which means there is no funding partner identified at this time, and the project will be funded entirely from the 2018 Bond Program. The Bond Project List includes a total allocation for all stages and phases of this project, of $74 million.

PROJECT LIFECYCLE

Every flood damage reduction project is unique. Yet each project begins and ends, with common and predictable milestones along the way. Whether a project moves forward – and how quickly – depends on many factors, including the availability of funding at each milestone, shifting community priorities for flood damage reduction, and other changing circumstances (such as the price of trees or concrete) from year to year.
