October 26, 2021 - Harris County Commissioners Court authorized negotiations with an engineering firm for preliminary engineering services in support of this project.

Project Description

This project is investigating channel conveyance improvements and locations for stormwater detention along tributary Q136-00-00, north of FM 1960. Project benefits may include channel conveyance improvements, lower water surface elevations, and a reduction of the floodplain within the project area. Project challenges include potential wetlands impacts and coordination with area stakeholders.

Stage

This project is currently undergoing the PRELIMINARY ENGINEERING stage and conceptual design stage. This effort will result in more detailed recommendations for flood damage reduction projects and an implementation strategy for those projects in the form of a PER.

Location

The project area is located in the northwestern part of Cedar Bayou watershed, near the confluence of tributary Q136 with FM 1960 and near to the border of Harris County with Liberty County.

Bond Project Listing

Bond Project F-69 is a “Local Only” project, which means there is no funding partner identified at this time, and the project will be funded entirely from the 2018 Bond Program. The Bond Project List includes a total allocation for all stages and phases of this project, of $10.5 million.

PROJECT LIFECYCLE

Every flood damage reduction project is unique. Yet each project begins and ends, with common and predictable milestones along the way. Whether a project moves forward – and how quickly – depends on many factors, including the availability of funding at each milestone, shifting community priorities for flood damage reduction, and other changing circumstances (such as the price of trees or concrete) from year to year.
