PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This project includes right-of-way acquisition, design and construction of a stormwater detention basin, HCFCD Unit U501-06-00, on South Mayde Creek. Stormwater detention basins reduce flooding risks and damages during heavy rain events by safely storing excess stormwater and slowly releasing it back to the bayou when the threat of flooding has passed.

Milestones

March 26, 2019 - Harris County Commissioners Court approved a $500,000 contract with an engineering firm to conduct preliminary engineering in support of this project.

November 13, 2018 – Harris County Commissioners Court authorized negotiations with an engineering firm for preliminary engineering services in support of this project.

September 25, 2018 – Harris County Commissioners Court authorized and initiated this project.

Location

This project will be located near South Mayde Creek in the Addicks Reservoir watershed of northwest Harris County.

Stage

This project is currently in the PRELIMINARY ENGINEERING stage. This stage of the project will result in a recommended project that can be taken to Harris County Commissioners Court for approval and then advanced to the DESIGN stage.

Bond Project Listing

Bond Project C-46 is a potential “Partnership” project. Total allocation for this multi-stage project is currently $16 million on the Bond Project List, of which an estimated $14.4 million would be partnership funding, if granted by a partnership agency, and $1.6 million would be local costs. If partnership funds are not available, the project will be funded totally from the 2018 Bond Program as a “Local Only” project.

The Harris County Flood Control District has a significant number of flood damage reduction projects occurring all over Harris County as part of its on-going Capital Improvement Program (CIP), Operations and Maintenance, and the 2018 Bond Program.
