Project Brays Update: Calhoun Road Bridge over Brays Bayou

To keep you informed about an upcoming partnership project between the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), the City of Houston (COH), and the Harris County Flood Control District in the Brays Bayou watershed, we want to notify you of an upcoming construction project that will improve the Calhoun Road Bridge over Brays Bayou.

On Monday, May 17th, TxDOT and COH will close the bridge to commuter and pedestrian traffic to begin the process of demolishing and replacing the current bridge with a higher, longer, and wider bridge.  Once bridge construction is completed, the Flood Control District will widen the channel and modify the outfall near the bridge to complete the entire project in Winter 2021/2022.  Detour routes for commuters and pedestrians to cross Brays Bayou during the Calhoun Road bridge closure will be available at Martin Luther King Boulevard (see detour routes in map below).

The Flood Control District appreciates your patience throughout this effort. More information on the project is available on the Flood Control District website, www.projectbrays.org. If you have questions about this or other projects, please call the Project & Study Information Line at 346-286-4040, or email [email protected]
