To keep you informed about the Harris County Flood Control District’s continuing work in the Halls Bayou watershed, we want to notify you of an upcoming project that will require shifts in traffic on Little York Road.

On Monday, March 22, the Flood Control District will begin the installation of two 12’x10’ box culverts under Little York Road, which will help improve the conveyance of stormwater along channel P118-14-00. This effort is part of Bond Project C-35, Little York Stormwater Detention Basin, Hopper Stormwater Detention Basin and P118-14-00 Channel Improvements.

This work will impact traffic in two phases:

  • Phase One: Beginning on March 22, the eastbound lanes of Little York Road will be closed between Willis Street and Hirsch Road for an estimated two to three weeks while the first box culvert is installed. Eastbound travelers will be shifted to the westbound lanes, where traffic will be reduced to one travel lane in each direction.
  • Phase Two: Once Phase One is complete, the installation of the second box culvert will begin, requiring the closure of the westbound lanes of Little York Road beginning just before Hirsch Road and ending at Willis Street. Construction is estimated to take two to three weeks. During this time, westbound travelers will be shifted to the eastbound lanes, where traffic will be reduced to one travel lane in each direction.

Weather permitting, construction is expected to be complete in early June.

While one lane in each direction will remain open at all times for the duration of construction, motorists are encouraged to plan their drive and, when possible, use alternate routes. Drivers should exercise caution and watch for flaggers, traffic control devices, construction personnel, and equipment entering and leaving the work zone.

C-35 was the first project to break ground as part of the Halls Implementation Program, a watershed-wide approach for flood mitigation planning for Halls Bayou. The Halls Implementation Program aims to provide a holistic view of watershed activity and deliver projects strategically and efficiently across the watershed.

The Flood Control District appreciates your patience throughout this effort. More information on the project is available on the Flood Control District website, www.hcfcd.org/C35.
