Construction Update: Westador Stormwater Detention Basin

Exciting news! Construction on the Westador Stormwater Detention Basin is expected to begin soon. Located just south of Cypress Creek and west of Ella Boulevard, this project will create new space to safely hold stormwater during heavy rains, helping reduce the risk of flooding in the watershed. This work is part of the 2018 Flood Control District Bond Program, which funds projects that make our communities more resilient to future storms.

Design Highlights:
The wet-bottom stormwater detention basin is expected to:
• Provide approximately 207-acre feet of stormwater storage – that’s roughly 67 million gallons!
• Direct the flow of stormwater through three spillways.
• Conserve wetlands within the project footprint.
• Include plans for reforestation along the stormwater detention basin.
