Joining Together to Celebrate Completion of White Oak Bayou Federal Flood Damage Reduction Project

Local and federal leaders will gather on Thursday, April 2, to mark the completion of the White Oak Bayou Federal Flood Damage Reduction Project. This is a major milestone in a more than three-decade effort to reduce flood risk for thousands of residents in the area.

This $124 million project was led by the Harris County Flood Control District in partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). It delivers critical improvements along White Oak Bayou to reduce flood risk for surrounding communities.

Originally initiated in 1998, the project reflects a longstanding federal-local partnership that combines local investment with federal resources to advance large-scale flood risk reduction work across Harris County.
 

WHAT:
The Harris County Flood Control District will host a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of the White Oak Bayou Federal Flood Damage Reduction Project (Bond ID C-14). This milestone marks the culmination of a multi-decade effort to significantly reduce flood risk for communities along White Oak Bayou.

WHY:
The White Oak Bayou Federal Flood Damage Reduction Project is a multi-year, $124 million initiative designed to reduce flooding risks along one of Harris County’s major waterways.

Delivered through a partnership between the Flood Control District and USACE, the project was made possible by Section 211(f) of the Water Resources Development Act of 1996 and the 2018 Bond Program, enabling local and federal collaboration to accelerate critical flood risk reduction projects.
