Heavy Rainfall is Affecting West Harris County; At 5 a.m. Bayous Are Rising

The Harris County Flood Control District's Flood Operations team is actively monitoring rainfall trends, as well as measured rainfall amounts and water levels in bayous and creeks. Excessive rainfall and flash flood event has impacted Waller, Fort Bend and Harris Counties overnight. Rainfall amounts averaged five to six and a half inches in the last six hours from Jersey Village to Katy with a wider area of three to four inches from Kingwood to Sugar Land to Waller County. Widespread street flooding continues over large areas of western and northern Harris County into Waller and Fort Bend counties.

Harris County Flood Control District Starts Construction on Brays Bayou Segment in the Meyerland Area

The Harris County Flood Control District has begun construction on the next phase of channel modifications as part of the Brays Bayou federal flood damage reduction project – Project Brays. During this construction phase, Brays Bayou will be widened between Buffalo Speedway and South Rice Avenue in the Meyerland area.

Harris County Flood Control District Moves to Monitor Mode As Tropical Storm Cindy Approaches the Northwest US Gulf Coast

The Harris County Flood Control District Flood Operations Team will move to monitor mode at 4 p.m.  today, June 21, 2017, in anticipation of Tropical Storm Cindy landfall on the northwest U.S. Gulf Coast late Wednesday into Thursday morning. The main concern with this weather system for Harris County is  heavy rainfall that could result in street and bayou flooding.
