2020-2021 Planting Season

During the 2021-22 tree planting season, which runs from October 2021 through March 2022, the Flood Control District planted 12,998 native trees on multiple sites around Harris County. Tree species included loblolly pine, bald cypress, pecan, sycamore, water oak and others.

Planting sites included:

  • 2,798 trees planted on Langham Creek, formally identified as HCFCD Unit U100-00-00, along the linear detention basin from Mason Road to Bridge Creek Terrace Drive in the Addicks Reservoir Watershed
  • 2,400 trees planted on the south bank of Buffalo Bayou, formally identified as HCFCD Unit W100-00-00, along the linear detention basin from North Eldridge Parkway to Dairy Ashford Road
  • 1,809 trees planted at the Curtis M. Graves Stormwater Detention Basin, formally identified as HCFCD Unit H500-01-00, east of Homestead Road and south of Miley Street in the Hunting Bayou watershed
  • 1,450 trees planted on Creekside Estates voluntary buyout lots on Wind Stream, River Fern, Gulf Bank and Wind Rock streets in the White Oak Bayou watershed
  • 1,174 trees planted on a tributary of Cypress Creek known as Seals Gully (or Bonds Gully) and formally identified as HCFCD Unit K124-00-00, from Cypresswood Drive to the confluence with Cypress Creek
  • 996 trees planted on a tributary of Cypress Creek known as Pillot Gully and formally identified as HCFCD Unit K140-00-00, from Vintage Preserve Parkway to the confluence with Cypress Creekhway 45 at Knobcrest Drive in the Greens Bayou watershed
  • 750 trees planted on a tributary of Horsepen Bayou formally identified as HCFCD Unit B104-05-00, from Galveston Road to the confluence with Horsepen Bayou in the Armand Bayou watershed
  • 400 trees planted on a tributary of Horsepen Bayou formally identified as HCFCD Unit B104-05-01, from Quiet Spring Lane to the confluence with B104-05-00 in the Armand Bayou watershed
  • 407 trees planted at a Stormwater Detention Basin formally identified as HCFCD Unit D500-10-00 near South Braeswood Boulevard west of Loop 610, and in the median along South Braeswood Boulevard to Milbury Drive, in the Brays Bayou watershed
  • 380 trees planted at Willow Waterhole Stormwater Detention Basin, formally identified as HCFCD Unit D512-01-00, at the compartment known as Willow Lake, near Gasmer Drive and South Post Oak Road in the Brays Bayou watershed
  • 293 trees planted on Flood Control District property along Cypresswood Drive in the Cypress Creek watershed (the former Raveneaux Country Club)
  • 141 trees planted on a tributary of Cypress Creek known as Dry Creek and formally identified as HCFCD Unit K145-00-00, from Spring Cypress Road to the stormwater detention basin formally identified as K545-03-00.
